Site Effluent: A Financial and Environmental Liability
Temporary toilet facilities are an essential requirement for construction sites, outdoor events and remote or off-grid premises. These are generally portable cabins fitted out with flushing toilets that empty into a small effluent tank underneath the cabin.
Due to the restricted size of the effluent tank, it must be emptied frequently, sometimes as often as several times a week. Each visit a tanker makes to empty the tank costs money, increases carbon emissions, disrupts work, generates foul smells and creates a safety hazard. In the construction sector, this can also affect a site’s BREEAM rating.
However, Tanks-UK has the perfect solution for cost-efficient, sustainable sewage management following the introduction of CABINPUMP® effluent pumping systems into its product range.
CABINPUMP: The Modern Effluent Management Solution
CABINPUMP has been designed and developed to offer a reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional cabin-mounted effluent tanks. Its innovative design uses two powerful macerator pumps to turn flushed effluent into a semi-liquid sludge that can be pumped horizontally over a distance of up to 600 metres, where it can be discharged into a gravity drain.
By eradicating the need for an effluent tank, CABINPUMP immediately puts a stop to effluent tanker site visits and issues associated with them.
CABINPUMP User Benefits
Ease of Use
CABINPUMP has been innovatively designed for plug-and-play installation, requiring a simple connection to standard-diameter pipes and a 13A power supply. Its sturdy frame has been designed for easy forklift handling and to protect it against accidental damage, so it can be quickly redeployed when site work has finished.
No Tankering Costs
By connecting temporary toilet facilities directly to a main sewer, the cost of effluent tank emptying can be completely deducted from operational costs. With the many challenges faced by the construction industry, this comes as a welcome saving.
CABINPUMP also means you aren’t paying for a half-full effluent tank to be emptied if that’s the only time you can schedule a visit; the effluent is discharged directly into the main sewer as soon as it is flushed.
Improved Health and Safety
The stench created when an effluent tank is being emptied is unpleasant at any time, particularly in warm weather. CABINPUMP is a sealed system that emits no smells, and if the connection to the gravity drain is sealed, the site can become a more pleasant place to work.
Effluent tankers are heavy goods vehicles and as such are a potential safety risk on a construction site or any location where there are people (temporary toilets are also deployed at schools, hospitals and other locations that are open to the public). CABINPUMP operates constantly without placing anyone at risk from manoeuvring HGVs.
Less Delay and Disruption
If you fail to realise an effluent tank needs emptying until it is full, your toilet facilities will be out of action pending a tanker visit. In some circumstances, this can be extremely disruptive; one example is that a school will be forced to temporarily close if it has no washroom facilities. As CABINPUMP is constantly discharging into a sewer, this kind of situation will never arise.
Tanker visits can also be disruptive if a working area or public access zone needs to be cleared to allow the tanker to pass or cordoned off during the emptying process. Again, CABINPUMP allows life to continue without interruption.
Increased Sustainability
Everyone is striving to make their operations more sustainable, but an effluent tanker consumes fossil fuels and emits environmental pollution. This can be detrimental to your sustainability targets and affect a construction site’s BREEAM rating. The powerful yet energy-efficient electrical macerator pumps used in CABINPUMP are a much greener alternative.
CABINPUMP Without A Gravity Drain
Not every location requiring temporary toilets has a nearby gravity drain for CABINPUMP to discharge into, but that isn’t a problem. Its powerful twin pumps can also propel effluent sludge to a height of up to 15 metres, which means it can be connected to a high-capacity effluent holding tank. While this will still require periodic emptying, tanker visits will be much less frequent, and as the holding tank can be placed in an area away from workers and pedestrians, it is a safer and less disruptive alternative to a cabin-mounted tank.
Combine a CABINPUMP unit with one of our wide range of aboveground and underground effluent holding tanks, and you will have an extremely versatile effluent management system that will still reduce costs, be more sustainable, streamline your operations and improve site safety.
