Over 2,000 litres of home heating oil were stolen over a period of 3 days, in Oxton.

Retired joiner, Alan Rockley, noticed that his oil tank had been tampered with, on June 30th, when he unexpectedly ran out of heating oil.

Upon inspecting his oil tank, he realised that he had just a few inches of oil left – meaning the thieves had stolen approximately 1,000 litres of his fuel.

Mr. Rockley believes the thieves siphoned his oil off, into a containment system over his hedgerow.

Mr. Rockley’s neighbour, Shirley May, had approximately £550 worth of heating oil stolen from her tank on the same night, only for the thieves to return to her home two days later to steal fuel from her oil tank once again.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post newspaper, Mr. Rockley told reporters; “We have lived here for over 30 years and have never had a problem till now. It’s disgusting and beggars belief.”

Home owners are once again being reminded to secure their properties and heating oil tanks as best as possible in order to take preventative steps against fuel theft. Ensuring your oil tank is secured with a tank lock and that as many visual and audible deterrents are present to throw off any would-be thieves, are just some of the ways in which householders are being encouraged to increase tank security.
