Police officials have identified the source of pollution at a river in North Wales, to be a leak from a heating oil tank.

Natural Resources Wales officials are monitoring pollution levels at Llyn Padarn, near Llanberis, following the incident in Afon y Bala – a river which feeds into the lake.

A representative from Natural Resources Wales has confirmed that the source of the pollution was a nearby heating oil tank, which leaked into the nearing sewage works.

Officers are continuing to monitor the water quality until it returns to normal and are advising householders that they may notice some discolouration in water supplies for a few days.
