Sectional steel water tanks

This (sectional) type of tank is the normal solution where steel tanks are required for durability and versatility.

Whilst plastic tanks are more suited to potable water, especially in the smaller sizes, steel tanks can be used under certain circumstances. The steel tanks are circular and made from galvanised steel to prevent corrosion, but may also be painted. The galvanising process is not just a coating – the zinc actually bonds into the steel to provide a barrier so that the steel cannot rust.

These sectional steel tanks are the same construction as used for agricultural grain, feed or fertiliser silos, but for use as water tanks they will require a liner and mostly they will also require a cover.

The beauty of this type of tank is their adaptability and the fact that, as sectional, they come as a kit to be assembled on site. This reduces the cost of transportation, and they are easy to assemble. Sizes available range from 2000 litres up to a whopping 4.5 million litres! This is achieved by having a range of different diameters and heights, utilising the standard components.

What would you use steel water tanks for?

One of the commonest uses for sectional steel tanks is for rainwater collection and storage, for irrigation, livestock drinking water or other agricultural uses.

Another common use for these tanks is fire tanks. These could be a reservoir for firefighters to use, e.g. on an industrial site; or for a feeder tank for a sprinkler system.

Open tanks are often used in aquaculture (fish farms) but could also be used in horticulture, for cultivation of pond plants, for instance.

Food production factories may also use steel water tanks as feeder tanks, possibly as part of a water extraction and industrial processing system. This would probably need to be potable water. This type of application would need additional pipework, which Tanks-UK can also supply.

Obviously, as each installation is unique, the accessories would be tailored to the application.

Replacement liners are also available for the refurbishment of older tanks, or in the event of a liner getting damaged, and of course, as already pointed out, Tanks-UK can provide the extra pipework for the installations. We can also arrange for our installers to complete the job for you.
