Rainwater Harvesting systems
Take advantage of a free resource when it falls from the sky – this is rainwater harvesting. Simply put, the water is collected from a roof or roofs and stored in a tank ready for use. There are no legal implications or environmental restrictions on this if it is simply rainwater harvesting and use.

The Government has several grant schemes running at different times of the year and they are always encouraging rainwater harvesting and conservation. Check these out now – some of these have closing dates, but there may also be new ones coming up for next season.

It is also worth checking with local authorities and regional water authorities as to what grant schemes are running – these do vary from year to year.

How it works
Rainwater drains off the roofs and is diverted from the guttering into a divertor which is fitted with a filter to remove leaves and moss, etc. The filtered water then flows into the tank or tanks (and we can link up a whole range of tanks!), ready to draw off as needed.
Bowsers
For animal husbandry, why not complete the system by purchasing a bowser as well? This means that harvested rainwater can be used for livestock watering by filling the bowser from the tank and siting it in the field, complete with the animal drinking trough.
Irrigation systems
Rainwater tanks can also be linked up to an irrigation system, for example in nurseries and garden centres, tree nurseries, public parks and gardens or private estates.
